One of my favorite things about vacation sessions is getting to photograph families when everyone has made the trip to be together. For this session on Isle of Palms, family members had come in from all over to spend time on the coast, which made it the perfect time to capture everyone together.

We met right at sunrise while the beach was still completely quiet. Early mornings out here are hard to beat – no crowds, soft light, and on this particular morning, a layer of fog hanging over everything.

With two toddler boys in the mix, the morning quickly turned into a lot of running up and down the beach. Which honestly makes for the best photos anyway.

Instead of trying to slow them down, we leaned into it. There was a lot of chasing, a lot of laughing, and plenty of sandy toddler footprints everywhere. The beach was completely deserted, so we had free rein to move around and let the boys explore as much as they wanted.

Those kinds of sessions are always my favorite – relaxed, a little chaotic in the best way, and full of the real interactions that make family photos actually feel like your family.

As the session went on, the fog slowly lifted off the water and the soft sunrise light started coming through. With the whole beach to ourselves, we wandered along the shoreline and grabbed a few more portraits before the boys decided they had officially run enough for one morning.

It was the perfect start to the day – quiet beach, happy kids, and a whole family together on vacation.

And honestly, mornings like that are exactly why sunrise sessions on Isle of Palms are always worth the early alarm.
