When Jeff first reached out about planning a Charleston proposal in Philadelphia Alley, it was immediately clear how excited he was. A little nervous too, but the good kind of nervous that usually means someone is about to ask a very important question.

After talking through a few ideas, he landed on Philadelphia Alley in the historic district. He liked that it felt a little tucked away compared to some of the busier spots downtown, and the brick and greenery made it a beautiful backdrop for the moment.
The plan was simple: Jeff would walk Cassandra down the alley, give me the signal, and then propose.
Honestly, one of the best moments ever. (Maybe I say that every time, but I do mean it)

Jeff led Cassandra down the alley, nerves and excitement very much present, and when the moment came he got down on one knee and asked the question. Cassandra’s reaction was immediate, total surprise and a very enthusiastic yes.

The moment was perfect. Sweet, genuine, and exactly what you hope for during a proposal.

One funny detail Jeff never knew: he walked about twenty feet past the spot we planned and proposed right in front of a bank of trash cans and a ladder. I edited my little heart out afterward, though they still make a very subtle cameo here and there.

After the proposal, we spent time walking through the historic streets of downtown Charleston for portraits. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with these two.

Jeff and Cassandra were easygoing, funny together, and completely comfortable with each other. The kind of couple where you can give a little direction and then mostly just let them be themselves.

We wandered through a few of my favorite spots in the historic district, letting the session feel relaxed and natural as they soaked in the excitement of being newly engaged.

One of the unexpected perks of photographing visitors to Charleston is that every once in a while, you run into them again.
This spring I spotted Jeff and Cassandra at a coffee shop while I was out with my family. They were in town visiting family of their own, and it was fun to see them again (even if my daughter Sloane was fully committed to her mission of trying to remove every item from every shelf in the shop). So catching up had to be brief.
Still, it was such a fun reminder of this day and how much joy these two brought to it.
Jeff and Cassandra, thank you for trusting me to capture such a big moment (trash cans and all). 😉
