THE BEFORE deserves TO BE REMEMBERED TOO

As soon as you find out you’re expecting a baby, everything changes. As a Charleston maternity photographer, I absolutely love documenting this season for parents-to-be — starting as early as your pregnancy announcement if you want. (There’s really no such thing as too much here. Consider this your permission to be a little extra.)

How far in advance should I Book my maternity shoot?

Frequently asked questions

I recommend booking your maternity session as early as possible, especially during busy seasons (spring & fall). Most clients reach out two to three months in advance, but if you’re planning things a little last minute, feel free to ask anyway. If I can make it work, I will.

What Point in My Pregnancy Is Best for Maternity Photos?

I recommend scheduling your maternity photos between 28–34 weeks. At this point in your pregnancy, you'll most likely have a great little bump showing while still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. I also don't recommend scheduling much past 35 weeks, just in case your baby decides to make an early appearance.

What makes your approach to maternity photography unique?

Of course we'll create beautiful portraits, but I'm not just documenting a pregnancy. I'm documenting this season of your life. The excitement, the anticipation, the planning, the wondering what they're going to be like, and all the little things you'll forget if nobody takes the time to preserve them.

Can my older children be part of my maternity photo session?

Absolutely. I love including older siblings in maternity sessions. This season is just as much a transition for them as it is for you, and having them involved often makes the photos feel even more meaningful years later. Just let me know who you'd like included when we start planning, and we'll build the session around your family.

What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?

Honestly, almost everyone says this before their session. You're growing an entire human, your body is changing, and being in front of a camera isn't exactly an everyday experience. Posing is my job, not yours. I'll guide you every step of the way, help you feel comfortable, and make sure you're never left wondering what to do. My goal isn't to force you into awkward poses — it's to create photographs that feel natural, beautiful, and genuinely like you.

What is your maternity photography style?

My approach is natural and documentary-inspired, with enough guidance to help you feel comfortable without making the session feel like a performance. I don't shoot in a studio, I'm not big on stiff posing, and I prefer editing that feels true to life rather than overly retouched. The goal is simple: photographs that still feel like you years from now.

Can I bring my dog or anything special to include in the photos?

Absolutely. Dogs are always welcome, and if there's something meaningful to this season — ultrasound photos, baby shoes, a favorite onesie, or a family heirloom — you're welcome to bring that too. Nothing is required, though. You can show up with absolutely nothing and we'll still create beautiful photos. The goal isn't to fill the session with props; it's to make sure the photos feel personal to you.

How much do maternity photos cost?

Maternity sessions begin at $950 and include dedicated shoot time, a private online gallery, and a collection of high-resolution digital images with printing rights. If you'd like to turn your photos into albums or artwork for your home, I'm happy to help with that too.
