Charleston Newborn Photography

THIS PART GETS TO BE EASY

Let's be honest — if you're looking for a newborn photographer, chances are you're also running on very little sleep and trying to remember the last time you drank your coffee while it was still hot. My goal is to make this part easy. No complicated planning, no pressure for a perfectly behaved baby, and no expectation that you have everything figured out. Just a relaxed session that documents your family exactly as you are right now.

Your baby doesn't need to cooperate. Your house doesn't need to be spotless. You don't need to feel like you've got it all figured out. Newborn sessions are about documenting real life during one of the biggest transitions you'll ever experience — not pretending everything is perfectly put together.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to schedule my newborn photos?

I typically recommend scheduling newborn photos when your baby is between one and three weeks old. During that time, they're often still pretty sleepy, but it also gives you a little time to settle in and recover from birth before inviting a camera into your life. That said, there’s no magic cutoff. If you're reading this with a six-week-old in your arms, you're not too late.

Do you pose newborns?

No. My approach to newborn photography is relaxed and lifestyle-focused. I don't pose or style your baby, and I don't bring props or studio setups into your home. Instead, I focus on documenting your family naturally — the snuggles, the tiny details, the connection, and all the little moments that make these early days feel like yours.

Do newborn sessions have to take place at home?

Not at all. While many families choose an in-home newborn session, you're also welcome to schedule your newborn photos anywhere in the Charleston area, including downtown Charleston, the beach, or another meaningful location. I do not have a studio and do not offer studio newborn sessions. Instead, I photograph families in their homes or outdoors in places that feel natural and personal to them.

How long does a typical newborn session last?

Newborn sessions are about an hour long. While I keep the pace relaxed and leave room for feeding, diaper changes, or a quick break if your baby needs one, I don't believe in dragging sessions out for hours. My goal is to keep the experience comfortable, efficient, and low-stress for everyone involved.

What if my baby needs to eat or be changed during the session?

That's completely expected. We pause whenever needed for feedings, diaper changes, or a little extra comfort. Newborn sessions are designed around your baby, not the other way around, so there's never any pressure to keep moving if someone needs a break.

What if my baby is fussy during the session?

Honestly, that's completely normal. Babies don't know they're scheduled for photos, and I never expect them to perform on cue. If your baby needs extra snuggles, feeding, soothing, or a little time to settle, we'll simply work around it. Some newborns sleep through the entire session, some stay awake the whole time, and both are perfectly okay. My job is to document this season as it is, not force it into a perfect little box.

What should my baby wear for the newborn photos?

I usually recommend keeping things simple. Soft, comfortable clothing and neutral tones tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus where it belongs — on your baby. If there's a special outfit or meaningful item you'd like to include, we can absolutely incorporate it into the session.

Where do you photograph newborn sessions?

Yes. I photograph newborn sessions throughout Charleston, including Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Summerville, Kiawah Island, Isle of Palms, and surrounding areas. Most sessions take place in your home, but I'm always happy to discuss other locations if there's somewhere meaningful to your family.
